Building exterior approved by UW Design Review Board
The concept for the building’s exterior was approved by the UW Design Review Board on Tuesday, Feb. 21. It’s important to note that while the overall concept is set, some of the smaller details will change as the design process moves forward. Here are a couple of views of the facility:
- The first view of the building’s exterior shows what visitors to CDR might see as they approach the new addition on foot from the northwest. The existing part of Babcock Hall is to the left in this view.
- The second view depicts a southwestern vantage point. At the far right can be seen the milk intake dock, behind the existing Dairy Plant.
The architects shared these comments about the building’s primary materials: “The new design illustrates the hand in glove relationship between the bright shiny metal of the Dairy Industry and the Babcock red brick symbolizing the cutting-edge research capabilities of the University of Wisconsin—Madison. The Dairy Industry, the Babcock Dairy and the Center for Dairy Research work together and support one another just as the exterior materials simply and elegantly tie the design together.”
