Project to undergo technical review
Wisconsin Department of Administration and UW–Madison representatives had a candid and productive meeting on May 21, 2019 to review the project status. Meeting participants – including DOA, DATCP, UW System, UW–Madison (including leadership of Food Science and CDR) and dairy industry representatives – discussed key issues relating to the project’s scope, budget, timeline and risks. A comprehensive review became necessary after vendor quotes for the final element of the project came in roughly $10 million over the allocated funding level.
Despite the recognition of daunting challenges, project partners confirmed their commitment to the project’s original vision. All agreed that DOA and UW–Madison technical staff, working in cooperation with industry experts, will conduct a review and develop options for moving the project forward in a positive manner. This technical review will take place in lieu of the third-party analysis previously discussed; efforts to find a suitable firm to conduct the third-party review were unsuccessful. No decisions about possible changes to project funding, scope or phasing will be made until the technical review process is completed.
Another meeting is scheduled for early June.
